Senator Antonio Trillanes IV said he would go to the Supreme Court to question the validity of the Proclamation 572 issued against him by President Rodrigo Duterte.

“Magpapa-file kami ng petition for TRO (Temporary Restraining Order) sa Korte Suprema (We’ll file a petition for TRO at the Supreme Court),” Trillanes said in a press conference on Wednesday.

“Kasi ito sa akin (Because for me), this goes beyond the political lines,” he added.

Duterte has issued the proclamation, revoking the amnesty granted to Trillanes by then President Benigno Aquino.

The senator said the justices of the Supreme Court should be alarmed because the proclamation showed that the President can exercise not only the executive but even the legislative and judicial powers.

“Yung warrant of arrest, pagka in-affirm nila yung presidential declaration, pwede nang mag issue ng warrant yung presidente,” Trillanes pointed out.

(That warrant of arrest, if they affirm the presidential declaration, the President can now issue a warrant).

Trillanes has been holed up in the Senate since Tuesday as he questions the validity of the proclamation. /cbb
