Barredo upstages renowned rivals to bag Cetba title
RONNAN Barredo staged a huge upset as he beat some of the country’s best bowlers to emerge champion in the masters event of last Sunday’s 3rd Cebu Tenpin Bowling Association (CETBA) National Open at the SM City Cebu Bowling Center.
Barredo, a regular member of CETBA and also a monthly finals champion in Cebu, defied the odds by beating top contenders including Paeng Nepomuceno and Perla Pacheco of Imus Tenpin Bowling Association (ITBA) Team Three.
Barredo, playing for Chilen’s Chicharon, edged Pacheco with 201 pinfalls to claim this year’s crown and bring home the top prize worth P80,000.
Barredo was only fourth place before entering the last eight with 423 pinfalls. Pacheco, on the other, hand was fifth in the top 12. She wound up first runner up overall.
Philippine Team member Raoul Miranda, who led after two rounds, placed seventh with 348 pinfalls. He mentioned earlier that most of the top bowlers of the tournament would find it difficult to win since they faced bowlers from the Visayas-Mindanao area who had bigger handicap points compared to them.
Bebot Flores of ITBA-Iloilo won second runner-up honors while Rommel Medallo finished third runner up. /CORRESPONDENT DALE G. ROSAL
