NAGA CITY – Vice President Leni Robredo on Tuesday expressed dismay over the recent decision of Malacañang revoking the amnesty granted to opposition Senator Antonio Trillanes IV.
In an official statement, Robredo said the decision was seemingly made to send a chilling effect to those who criticize President Duterte’s administration.
“Ang desisyon ng Palasyo na ideklarang void ang amnestiyang binigay kay Senator Antonio Trillanes IV ay isa namang patunay na gagawin ng administrasyong ito ang lahat para patahimikin ang sinumang kumokontra rito,” Robredo said.
She said that instead of pushing for personal interests, the administration should focus on finding solutions to the problems that the country is facing including hunger, inflation rate, unemployment and alleged corruption.
According to her, the administration is using this to divert the public’s attention from the country’s problems which are not being addressed.
She also said the decision impairs the country’s democratic process.
“Ang mga pag-atakeng ito ay hindi lamang nagbubuhat ng pagkakawatak-watak at kawalan ng pag-asa sa ating sambayanan. Tinatapakan nito ang mga mismong demokratikong proseso na nagpapatatag at nagpapalakas sa ating bayan,” she said.
Robredo also urged the administration to honor the amnesty granted to Trillanes and stop wasting the people’s money and time.
