2 die in head-on crash in Maharlika Highway

LUCENA CITY – Two persons died in a head-on collision between a passenger bus and a cargo truck along the Maharlika Highway in Tiaong, Quezon shortly before midnight Monday, police reported Tuesday.

A cargo truck driven by Leandro Hilado collided with an incoming Mega Bus Line passenger bus (AJA 1114) in Barangay Talisay around 11:30 p.m., Senior Supt. Osmundo de Guzman, Quezon police chief, quoting a report, said.

Police said Hilado suffered fatal injuries and died on the spot, while his unidentified passenger, who sustained head and body injuries, died on the way to the hospital.

Police, quoting witnesses, said the truck overtook a motorcycle and did not notice the incoming passenger bus.

The driver of the passenger bus, Romeo Delocino, was detained at the local police jail facing charges of reckless imprudence resulting in double homicide and damage to property. DELFIN T. MALLARI JR.
