MPD ranks third in anti-‘tambay’ arrests in Metro
When it comes to the number of people arrested for violating local ordinances, Manila ranks third in Metro Manila, according to the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO).
Data from the NCRPO showed that between June 13 and Sept. 3, the Manila Police District (MPD) recorded 23,106 arrests in its anti-“tambay” drive.
In first place was the Quezon City Police District (QCPD) with 101,423 arrests followed by the Eastern Police District with 54,987.
The NCRPO said that during the same period, a total of 213,090 arrests were made.
Only 24,307 people were charged while the rest were fined or released with a warning.
Based on records, 183 people were arrested in Manila from Sunday to Monday alone for drinking in public, going outside their house without a shirt, and violating the smoking ban.
