The Light Rail Manila Corporation (LRMC) reminded the public on Sunday that “intoxicated passengers” are not allowed to enter the platform of the Light Rail Transit line 1 (LRT-1).
“We wish to remind the public that as a policy, the Light Rail Manila Corporation (LRMC) does not allow intoxicated passengers on LRT-1 in consideration of the comfort of other commuters,” the LRMC said in a statement sent to INQUIRER.net
The statement was issued after a video of a drunk passenger went viral after he attempted to steal the service firearm of Romeo Rallon, the security who was on duty at the Pedro Gil station during the incident.
According to LRMC, the incident transpired last Wednesday, August 29, before 10 p.m. The identity of the passenger was not disclosed for privacy concerns.
Initial investigation showed that the drunk passenger tried to enter the station, but Rallon stopped him due to his condition.
“The said passenger insisted and attempted to grab the service firearm of the security guard on duty,” the LRMC said.
Rochelle Gamboa, LRT-1 Head of Corporate Communications, also confirmed to INQUIRER.net that the passenger punched the security guard him in the face.
Gamboa said the security guard was brought to the clinic for a medical check-up after the incident.
The passenger was also brought to a hospital by LRT-1 security personnel for a check-up and was already turned over to authorities. /ee
