Filipino revolutionaries, led by Gen. Mariano Llanera, rose in arms against Spanish forces in the town of San Isidro, Nueva Ecija province. With the help of Gen. Gregorio del Pilar and his troops, the three-day fighting resulted in the freedom of jailed leaders and members of the revolutionary forces. The uprising earned for Nueva Ecija the distinction of being immortalized in the Philippine flag as one of the eight provinces that first fought against Spanish rule.
Sept. 3, 1968
The town of Iriga in Camarines Sur province officially became a city through a presidential proclamation. Republic Act No. 5261, which converted Iriga to a city, was signed into law on July 8, 1968. Iriga is the second municipality of Camarines Sur to become a city after Naga. Located between Legazpi City in Albay province and Naga City, the small city of 17,400 hectares is set to become a top agro-ecotourism destination in the Philippines.
