The Office of the Vice President (OVP) with the help of its private sector partner, has provided kitchen tools and equipment to the Lourdes National High School in Panglao, Bohol.
Vice President Leni Robredo said after the turnover ceremony on Thursday that they gave kitchen equipment in particular to address the need to bolster the school’s senior high culinary track.
“We saw an opportunity here in Lourdes National High School, as it is the only senior high school in Panglao,” she said.
The project is one of OVP’s Angat Buhay programs, which Robredo claims to have helped a total of 176 communities nationwide since 2016, including Panglao.
In the program, the OVP partners with a private sector company for funding and other necessary aid — in this case, a cookware and kitchenware company.
“It can help the students. One of our partners here is Masflex, which we partnered through the Indian Chamber of Commerce,” she explained.
“Given that we have no funds for programs, we are dependent with partners who could help us,” she added.
Aside from the provision of equipment, the Vice President said that there are also programs to teach capability-building measures, and give better opportunities to deserving students.
“We are also doing capacity-building, in fact, it has been started. Chef Gene Gonzalez taught them, then we would give scholarships to bring them to Manila after graduation,” Robredo noted. /jpv
