The state weather bureau on Thursday said it is tracking a low pressure area and a typhoon seen to trigger rains and enhance the southwest monsoon or “habagat.”
The LPA, spotted 1,000 kilometers east of Guiuan, Eastern Samar, is unlikely to intensify into a tropical depression but it will bring rains over the eastern parts of Visayas and Mindanao, weather forecaster Gener Quitlong said.
Typhoon Jebi, located 3,030 kilometers east of northern Luzon remains outside of the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR). It was packing maximum sustained winds of 140 kilometers per hour and gusts of up to 170 kph, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said.
It may enter the Philippine area of responsibility if it continues its west northwest movement at 20 kph, Pagasa said.
It is not expected to hit land but it will enhance the southwest monsoon.
Batanes and the Babuyan Group of Islands will have cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorm.
Meanwhile, Metro Manila and the rest of the country will have localized thunderstorms. /muf
