Aspiring village and youth leaders in Marawi City have until this day, August 30, to submit their certificates of candidacy (COCs) at the Commission on Elections (Comelec) for the special village and youth elections in the area.
Comelec spokesperson James Jimenez said Wednesday they do not see the need to extend the eight-day period for the filing of COCs, especially that so far they have yet to receive any request for extension.
The special election in war-torn Marawi City will be held on September 22, or four months after the country had its synchronized village and youth elections. The eight-day campaign period is set to being on September 12.
The Comelec suspended the holding of the May elections in Marawi City in January due to the ongoing rehabilitation efforts there. Around 79,000 voters are expected to troop to voting centers in this special elections. /kga
