The Anti-Cybercrime Group of the Philippine National Police (PNP) filed Wednesday a criminal complaint before the Department of Justice (DOJ) against a former television personality and flight stewardess for allegedly sending an e-mail bomb threat to an airline company.
Janet Alano Tulagan is facing a complaint for violation of Presidential Decree 1727 or the Malicious Dissemination of False Information or the Willful Making of any Threat Concerning Bombs, Explosives in relation to Republic Act 10175 or the Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012.
Tulagan was arrested at her house last Friday following a complaint filed by a local airline stating that an unidentified person has sent them a bomb threat via e-mail last July 12.
The bomb threat was sent by a person claiming to be a member of the Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) with an email address abubakarsahid@yahoo.com. The message read: “Alla hu akbar! All flights Manila to Kuala Lumpur will have a bomb on board on July 13.”
The PNP with the help of the US justice department managed to identify the IP address of the e-mail sender as well as the mobile phone number of the person who sent the threat.
Further investigation showed that the IP address was traced to Tulagan, and eventually, a search warrant against the suspect was obtained from the court. /kga
