INQUIRER.net poll result says no to renaming Edsa to Cory Aquino Avenue
MANILA, Philippines—Even as the late President Cory Aquino’s contribution to the restoration of Philippine democracy has never been forgotten until today, most of the respondents of the recently concluded INQUIRER.net poll don’t want the country’s busiest thoroughfare to be renamed as Cory Aquino Avenue.
To the poll question “Do you approve of the proposed bill renaming Edsa [Epifanio de los Santos Avenue] to Cory Aquino Avenue,” 2,019, or 82.88 percent of the total 2,436 respondents said no, while only 417 or 17.12 percent voted yes to the week-long poll.
In honor of the late president, last week Bohol Representative Rene Relampagos filed House Bill 5422 to change the name of the 24-kilometer long Edsa formerly known as Highway 54.
The road runs a semicircle around Manila and passes through the cities of Pasay, Makati, Mandaluyong, Quezon and Caloocan.
