A hunt was still ongoing for the driver of a Quezon City congressman who allegedly disappeared after the lawmaker entrusted to him for safekeeping P200,000 in cash.
The solon, Rep. Vincent “Bingbong” Crisologo of the city’s first district, has accused Josefino Joey Anastacio of qualified theft.
Supt. Rodrigo Soriano, Masambong police station commander, said that the driver had been working for the congressman for over a year.
On Thursday evening, Crisologo reportedly handed to Anastacio P200,000 in cash for safekeeping. The driver, however, has not reported for work since then.
It was not clear what the money was for, only that Crisologo said he had entrusted it to Anastacio temporarily.
The lawmaker filed a complaint against his driver in the Masambong police station the following day.
Not at home
Soriano said that some of his men went to Anastacio’s house at Barangay Katipunan, but were told that he was not there.
At press time, the police were still trying to determine the whereabouts of the suspect, Soriano added.
A case of qualified theft has already been filed against Anastacio in the Quezon City Prosecutor’s Office. —WITH A REPORT FROM CEDRIX PEREZ
