LPA, tropical depression ‘Luis’ to enhance ‘habagat’ – Pagasa

Two weather disturbances will enhance the southwest monsoon, the state weather bureau said Friday.

Tropical Depression Luis was last spotted 430 kilometers north northwest of Basco, Batanes, the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said.

The tropical depression is blowing maximum sustained winds of 40 kilometers per hour near the center and gusts of up of 70 kph. It is expected to exit the Philippine area of responsibility by Saturday.

A low pressure area (LPA) was also spotted at 1,205 kilometers east of Basco, Batanes.

Pagasa said these two weather disturbances will enhance the southwest monsoon or ‘habagat’ which is now affecting the western section of Northern and Central Luzon.

According to Pagasa, Ilocos Region, Cordillera Administrative Region, Zambales, Bataan, Batanes, and Babuyan Group of Islands will have monsoon rains.

Metro Manila and the rest of the country meanwhile will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers.  /muf
