Bayan Muna Rep. Carlos Zarate has mocked Ilocos Norte Gov. Imee Marcos’ call for people at her age to be like the millennials and move on from issues against her family.
Zarate said people indeed have been “moving on” – not to disregard the past but to file more cases against the Marcoses.
“Eh talagang we will keep on moving on, to make them accountable, hindi titigil ang mga mamamayan na maging accountable ang mga Marcoses,” Zarate said during a press briefing on Thursday.
“Kung sa inaakala nila eh naka-limot na ang mamamayan at sinabi pa niya mabuti pa ang mga millennials, hindi niya ba nakita na noong inilibing si Marcos, ang unang lumabas sa kalsada eh mga galing sa unibersidad at kolehiyo?” he recalled.
On Tuesday, as the nation commemorated the 35th death anniversary of former Senator Ninoy Aquino, the Ilocos Norte Governor said issues against her family in the past should no longer be dug up.
She even cited as an example the youth, whom she said have already “moved on” from those issues.

But many lawmakers, including members of the Liberal Party, immediately rejected Marcos’ call while youth groups denied her claims that they have moved on from issues against the Marcoses.

Zarate said even the House of Representatives recognizes the abuses during the two-decade reign of President Marcos.
“Dito sa House, naipasa na ‘yong House Joint Resolution 24, to extend the validity no’ng compensation sa human rights victims. So on third reading ito when the House resumes its session,” Zarate said.
He then warned the Marcos scion and her family that Filipinos have never and will never forget the corruption and atrocities during the Marcos dictatorship.
“’Wag magkakamali ang mga Marcoses na akala nila nakalimutan na ang mga kasalanan nila sa bayan. ‘Di lang ang kaban ng bayan ang ninakawan nila, kung hindi ang mga dugo na inutang nila sa mamamayan,” he noted. “Sisingilin at sisingilin pa rin sila, at hindi ito makakalimutan ng mamamayan.” /kga
