Tourism Secretary Bernadette Romulo-Puyat said on Wednesday that she will not be seeking a Senate seat in next year’s election.
Puyat said that it does not follow that since her father Alberto Romulo was a former senator, she too is expected to run for the Senate.
“I think I’m more suited to this and I think there are a lot of other people that are more capable to run for an elected position. I think I’m more bagay here,” Puyat said in an interview with ABS CBN News Channel.
Puyat insists she could better serve the country as tourism head.
“I always say there are other people that are more suited for that job, more capable. And me, I think I am more suited to this job,” she added.
“I can serve the country in this position. I like what I’m doing. There are many ways you can serve the country, you can serve from the private sector,” she added.
Puyat said not even President Rodrigo Duterte could make her run for Senate.
“I will say no. I just like what I’m doing. I promote the country and our country is so beautiful,” she said.
“We have the best food, the most hospitable people, and really we are the most fun people in the world,” the tourism chief added. /muf
