Chinese man in hit-and-run accident arrested

A Chinese man has been arrested after he allegedly figured in a hit-and-run accident on Monday on Roxas Boulevard which left a 17-year-old boy dead and two other minors injured.

Manila policemen identified the suspect as Wai Ki Kung, also known as Vincent. He was arrested just hours before he was set to leave the country for Hong Kong after investigators alerted the airport police which stopped him from boarding his 3:50 p.m. flight.

3 victims

Killed in the hit-and-run accident was Jeremiah Erwin Tan. Two girls aged 12 and 13 were injured and treated at a hospital.

Senior Insp. Jonar Cardozo, chief of the Manila Police District’s vehicular traffic investigation division, said the accident happened at 1:20 a.m. on the northern lane of Roxas Boulevard corner Pedro Gil Street.

A gray Toyota Avanza driven by Kung reportedly hit Tan and sideswiped the girls. However, he did not stop and help the victims, said Cardozo.

Upon checking with the Land Transportation Office, the car was found to be registered to Sun Fortune Inc. in Valenzuela City.

The Manila police said it coordinated with the company and was informed by an official, Sheldon Oranga, that Kung had returned the “totally damaged” vehicle which was missing its bumper.
