LP members remember 1971 Plaza Miranda bombing

Members of the Liberal Party commemorated on Tuesday the 47th anniversary of the Plaza Miranda bombing that killed nine persons and injured 60 others.

Jose Orojo, a member of the party from Bulacan said the Plaza Miranda bombing was an attack against those who criticized the Marcos government.

“Andito po tayo para gunitain ang August 21, 1971 kung kailan binomba ang rally, miting de avance ng Liiberal Party dahil gusto nilang malipon lahat ng kumukutya sa pamamalakad ng Marcos government,” Orojo said during his speech.

Orojo also stressed on the importance of commemorating the Plaza Miranda bombing as symbolic of the public’s resistance against threats of government.

At least three media workers covering the event were killed and several LP leaders were injured during the Plaza Miranda bombing.

Among those injured were LP leaders Jovito Salonga, Ramon Bagatsing, then Senator and LP President Gerry Roxas and his wife Judy Araneta-Roxas.

Around 30 members gathered at Plaza Miranda on Tuesday morning to pay tribute to the lives killed and injured in the bombing.  /muf
