A man facing complaints for robbery and rape was killed in an encounter with police personnel in Barangay 176, Bagong Silang, in North Caloocan City on Monday night.
A report from the Caloocan City Police said a man and a woman went to the Police Community Precinct (PCP) 3 at about 10 p.m. on Monday and reported a robbery.
According to the couple, both residents of the barangay, said a man about 1.52 meters tall, wearing a camouflage raincoat, a yellow t-shirt and a blue short pants took their belongings at gunpoint.
Before leaving, the robber allegedly raped the woman.
Policemen conducted a follow-up operation in Phase 3 of Barangay 176 and spotted a man that fit the suspect’s description. The man was later identified as Jaypee Samson.
According to the police, when they tried to approach the man to verify his identity, he pulled out a gun and opened fire at the lawmen.
The policemen returned fire and hit him in different parts of the body which resulted in his death.
A .38-caliber revolver with three live ammunition, two spent shells, and five cartridge cases were recovered from the suspect.
Police also found a wallet with P600, a Samsung cellphone and an iPhone on the suspect.
The complainants later identified Samson as the man who robbed them and raped the woman. They also confirmed that the retrieved iPhone belonged to them.
The suspect’s body was brought to the Jade Funeral Homes for autopsy. /cbb
