President Rodrigo Duterte has signed the law establishing a retirement benefit system in the Office of the Ombudsman.

Republic Act No. 11059, or the “Retirement Law of the Office of the Ombudsman,” augments the retirement benefits of Ombudsman officials and employees.

RA 11059 covers all officials and employees at the anti-graft office.

Under the law, the Ombudsman who has served a full-term of seven years would enjoy the same retirement and other benefits as those of the Presiding Justice of the Court of Appeals.

All other officials and employees would enjoy the same retirement and other benefits as those of the judges of trial courts.

The law would take effect after 15 days after its publication in the Official Gazette or in at least two newspapers of general circulation.
