Typhoon-triggered floods leave 10 dead, 2 missing in Vietnam

HANOI — The death toll from floods caused by Typhoon Bebinca had increased to 10 as of Saturday, according to the Office of the Central Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control.

Nghe An Province was hardest hit with six fatalities.

In addition, two people in Son La and Thanh Hoa are still missing.

Roads in Son La, Yen Bai, Thanh Hoa and Nghe An provinces have been shut by landslides, while dykes have burst in the provinces of Bac Giang and Thanh Hoa.

The department of natural disaster prevention in the south reported that a whirlwind pulled down a house killing two local residents in Cai Nuoc District in the southernmost province of Ca Mau on Saturday morning.

Ministries and relevant departments have been strictly implementing the Prime Minister’s official dispatch to address the consequences of the storm.

Authorities in Nghe An Province are sparing no effort to arrange accommodations for residents isolated in Ky Son, Tuong Duong, Con Cuong, Tan Ky, Anh Son and Nghia Dan districts.

The Border Guard High Command of Thanh Hoa Province has directed units to deploy vehicles along with 420 soldiers and officers to help move flood victims and evacuate landslide-prone areas in Quan Hoa, Quan Son, Ba Thuoc and Muong Lat districts.
