DID YOU KNOW: Where and how did Miguel Lopez de Legazpi die?
Miguel Lopez de Legazpi, colonizer and the first Spanish governor general of the Philippines, died of heart failure on Aug. 20, 1572 in Manila.
Born in 1510, he founded the first Spanish settlement in Cebu in April 1565.
In 1571, he established the City of Manila, which became the capital of the new Spanish colony and Spain’s major trading port in East Asia.

However, Legazpi died a poor man.
