12-year-old boy hurt in Danao grenade blast

A 12-year-old boy was injured after  motorcycle-riding men threw a grenade in  a park in Danao City at dawn yesterday.

The boy was brought to the Danao District Hospital for treatment of minor burns on his arm.

No clear motive was established for the explosion, which police said could have been a random act of violence.

The blast occurred on corner D. Durano Street, barangay Poblacion, Danao City.

Three men were seen  on board a black XRM motorcycle passing  by the park.

One of the backriders  threw a grenade near the water fountain.

A number of bystanders were still at the park around 1:30 a.m.

The boy, who was sitting on a bench near the fountain, was hit by the explosion.

PO2 Ildefonso Prosia of the Danao City police  said the explosion was not devastating as the grenade had a crack and its powder spilled.

He said the grenade was an old model.

Witnesses told police that the men wore black sweatshirts while two of them wore caps.

Police said the culprits fled towards north.

Further  investigation is still ongoing./correspondent rhea ruth rossel
