MIAA: Naia operations return to normal after 24-hour runway closure

The jet of the Xiamen Air flight MF8667, in this file photo, gets stuck beside the main runway of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA), prompting airport authorities to close down this piece of airstrip and call off or divert a number of international flights on Friday, August 17, 2018. After more than 24 hours of closure, the Manila International Airport Authorities (Miaa) announced on Saturday that runway 06/24 is now open for flight operations.

This development came after a Xiamen Air jet skidded and went off the runway as it landed at Naia during a heavy downpour on Thursday evening.

The Miaa said that the runway has opened at around 11:28 a.m., more than 30 minutes before the target time of opening.
