Farmer dies in Isabela shooting

MALLIG, ISABELA—-A 46-year-old farmer was shot dead by two gunmen who also shot and wounded his 15-year-old son on Friday night in Barangay (village) San Jose Norte 1, police said on Saturday.

Police said before the shooting, the gunmen knocked on the house of farmer Ricky Padua at about 7:30 p.m.

The door was opened by Padua’s son, Brix, a Grade 9 student as the suspects asked for his father.

According to police, the gunman saw Padua at the kitchen table and opened fire. Brix grappled with the gunmen but was pushed back and shot.

Padua was declared dead on arrival at the Manuel Roxas District Hospital. Brix who sustained a gunshot wound in the back, was treated at the Faustino Dy Sr. Memorial Hospital.

Investigators have still yet to determine the motive behind the shootings. /muf
