Chinese plane still stuck; runway closure extended until 7 p.m.

The left engine of Boeing passenger plane from China, a Xiamen Air, sits several meters away on the grassy portion of the runway of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport after it skidded off the runway while landing Friday, Aug. 17, 2018 in suburban Pasay city, southeast of Manila, Philippines. The Ninoy Aquino International Airport (Naia) extended the closure of a runway where a Chinese plane veered off in a muddy field until 7:00 p.m. on Friday.

Naia announced this second extension after Xiamen Air flight MF8667 overshot the 06/24 runway of the airport. It earlier extended the closure until only 4:00 p.m.

“All options are being considered to recover the aircraft more expeditiously so flight operations at the Naia international runway can resume,” Naia said in a Facebook post.
