LOOK: Marikina cops brave heavy flooding to carry PWD to evacuation center

Dark clouds and heavy flooding covered several parts of Metro Manila recently but policemen brought a ray of light and sunshine when they carried to safety an elderly person with disability (PWD) in Marikina City.

Photos sent to the media showed PO1 Anastacio Baccay Jr, PO1 Baltazar Balderas, and PO1 Melbert Dean Dela Cerna of the Police Community Precinct 6, carrying a senior citizen to an evacuation center in H. Bautista Elementary School in Barangay Concepcion Uno.

At least 2,458 individuals and 750 families remain in evacuation centers as of Wednesday afternoon due to flooding bought by the southwest monsoon, according to the Marikina City Police.

Residents were forcibly evacuated after third alarm was raised in the Marikina River as it rose to 20.6 meters on Sunday.

The alert level has since been lifted and it is at the 13.5-meter level as of Wednesday morning.   /vvp
