DepEd to probe loss of textbooks worth P25M

/ 05:36 AM August 15, 2018

The Department of Education (DepEd) will look into the loss of P25.2 million in books which the Commission on Audit (COA) flagged in a recent report.

At least 820,682 textbooks were found damaged by water in the warehouse of Lexicon Press Inc., which had won a P72-million contract to reprint 2.4 million textbooks.

The damaged books had been stored at Lexicon’s warehouse while officials waited for the results of bidding for forwarding services and improvement of DepEd’s warehouse in Taguig City.

The Lexicon warehouse was flooded resulting in the books — some for English, Araling Panlipunan and Mathematics — being damaged. The water-logged books were later thrown away. —Jhesset Enano
