San Roque dam in Pangasinan surpasses normal limit, opens gates

The San Roque Dam in Pangasinan opened four floodgates Sunday morning to release water and prevent an overspill.

As of 9 a.m., Gates 1, 2, 5, and 6 were open at 0.5 meters to release water, Pangasinan Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (PDRRMO) said in an advisory posted on Facebook.

The water level at the dam was at 281.19 meters above sea level (masl), which was already above the 280 masl normal water level.

Residents living near waterways were advised to be alert and evacuate to higher ground or to evacuation centers as needed.

Ipo Dam in Bulacan also released water early Sunday morning, the state weather bureau said. /cbb
