Northern Samar cops sacked after suspected NPA rebels raid police station

Policemen from the Lapinig Town Police Station in Northern Samar were sacked after their station was raided by at least a hundred members of the New People’s Army (NPA) on Friday.

All officers of the station were fired including their police chief, Inspector Noli Montebon, commander of the 2nd Northern Samar Provincial Mobile Force Company Chief Inspector Juan Byron Leogo, and Northern Samar Provincial Director Senior Supt. Romeo Campomanes.

Police Chief Supt. Mariel Magaway, director of Police Regional Office 8, has also been relieved of his post, according to Senior Supt. Benigno Durana, spokesperson of the PNP.

He was replaced by Police Chief Supt. Dionard Carlos.

Firearms, gadgets, computers, and cash of still undisclosed value were believed to have been stolen by the NPA members, Durana said.

PO1 Edison Aguirre and PO2 Gerry Quilicol, who were manning their posts at the station, were also wounded in an initial encounter with the rebels.

Both policemen were taken to the Gamay District Hospital for treatment.   /vvp
