After threatening to kill crooked cops, Duterte gives P25M for cops’ meds

A day after he threatened to kill crooked cops, President Rodrigo Duterte on Wednesday pledged to allot P25 million for a medical reimbursement program for the Philippine National Police (PNP) effective this August.

“I am giving you P25 million worth of medicines alone,” he said during the 117th Police Service Anniversary in the PNP national headquarters on Wednesday.

This came a day after the president showered with insults the alleged “crooked policemen” presented to him in Malacañang.

On national TV, Duterte threatened to kill 102 policemen from Metro Manila and nearby provinces allegedly involved in kidnap-for-ransom, extortion, robbery, and serious illegal detention, among others.

Meanwhile, on Wednesday, PNP Chief Director General Oscar Albayalde thanked Duterte for his promise which will be a “great help” to the police troops.

“I take this opportunity today to extend the PNP’s deep gratitude to the President for his recent pledge,” Albayalde said during the event.

The PNP chief said the fund will “indeed go a long way on helping ease the financial burden on the shoulders of our police personnel who undergo medical treatment or are hospitalized.”

“Napakalaking tulong po ito sa ating mga pulis. Maraming salamat po Mr. President,” he said.
