MANILA, Philippines – The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority on Monday started its move to include other public utility vehicles in its roof-tagging scheme which was first done on buses, a 990AM report said.
With the tagging system slated for implementation on December 12, the MMDA began painting plate numbers on non-metered and FX taxis, vans, and AUVs at the transport terminal in TriNoma mall in Quezon City.
MMDA chairman Francis Tolentino was quoted as saying that the roof-tagging scheme would make it easier to take not of vehicles’ plate numbers in accidents and harder for colorum vehicles to operate.
“Roof tags” should be 400 millimeters by 900 millimeters in size with its letters around measuring 40 millimeters.
Meanwhile, tags on the vehicles’ front, back and sides should be a third of the size of the tags on the roof, said the report.
By December 12, violators of the roof-tagging scheme will be fined P500 on first offense. A P500 fine and cancellation of franchise will be recommended on the second offense, the report said.
The MMDA also implemented roof-tagging scheme for buses last August 15.
