Robber killed in shootout with Caloocan police

A suspected thief was killed while another was arrested in Caloocan City, police said Tuesday.

Authorities identified the slain suspect as Fernando Panti Villamin, 24, who allegedly robbed Janine Cruz Papa in Barangay 176, Bagong Silang before dawn Monday.

Papa reported the incident to the police, who immediately conducted its pursuit operation. Police said they caught up with Villamin, who allegedly pulled out his gun upon seeing them.

Police fired back and hit Villamin, who was subsequently brought to Dr. Jose N. Rodriguez Memorial Hospital where he was declared dead on arrival.

Meanwhile, Villamin’s cohort, Niño Ubalde Orbasido, 32, was arrested.

According to a spot report,  police recovered from the scene a caliber .38 revolver without serial number loaded with four ammunitions, two fired cartridge cases of caliber .38 and two fired cartridge cases of 9 millimeter.

Papa positively identified the suspects, the police report added.  /kga
