National Breastfeeding Awareness Month is observed every August by virtue of Republic Act 10028 signed in 2009.
The observance aims to raise public awareness of the importance of breastfeeding.
It also coincides with World Breastfeeding Week which is celebrated from Aug. 1 to 7 in 120 countries.
The World Alliance for Breastfeeding Action initiated the weeklong observance to promote breastfeeding during the first six months of a baby’s life. —Marielle Medina
