STREAM’S Sylvester Millevo, this year’s Rookie of the Year and Most Valuable Player, had an awful game in the winner-take-all Game Three of the 2011 Powerade E-League for Basketball Best-of-Three Finals last Saturday at the City Sports Club-Cebu Gym.
But the Blue Devils showed it will take more than an awful game from its top player to stop them as they conquered the Lexmark Stallions, 83-75, to emerge champions in the annual tournament.
The two teams split the first two games of the series where Millevo was the consistent top scorers for the Blue Devils.
But in a game where all the marbles were on the line, Millevo struggled mightily and managed just five points, five rebounds and one steal.
Coming to the rescue for Stream were Benjie Mancao, Roderick Mangubat, Gilbeys Cabrera and Valiant Ngo, who all scored in double figures and combined for 60 points.
Mancao finished with 19 points and 13 rebounds, Mangubat tallied 17 points and five rebounds, Cabrera had 14 points, six rebounds, three assists, and two steals while Ngo scattered 10 points, 10 rebounds, one block, one assist and a steal.
With their balanced attack, the Blue Devils led after the end of every quarter en route to sealing the championship./EDITORIAL ASSISTANT CALVIN D. CORDOVA
