Water project to serve more than 2,000 Marawi families underway

A water project worth P76 million has been initiated by the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) which will provide 2,156 households in war-stricken Marawi City.

The project, which is a part of DILG’s Sagana at Ligtas na Tubig para sa Lahat (Salintubig), will be completed by December 2019, Secretary Eduardo Año said in a statement on Thursday.

“The DILG has actively contributed to end the Marawi siege and reclaiming of the City from the local terrorist group.  Now the Department continues to be proactive in its rehabilitation,” said Año, who was appointed as martial law administrator during the Marawi siege.

According to the DILG – who also co-leads the interagency Task Force Bangon Marawi (TFBM) committee on security, peace, and order – the barangays of Sagonsongan, Mipaga, Emie Punod, Basak Malutlut, East Basak, Poblacion, and Moriatao Loksadato are considered as the Salintubig’s priority areas.

“Hindi kami bibitaw. Kasama ninyo ang DILG at ang buong TFBM sa pagbangon muli ng lungsod at ang mga residente nito,” he assures.

(We won’t let go. The DILG and the entire TFBM will be with you as the city and its people rises back up.)

DILG has already handed over the budget to the local government of Marawi, through Assistant Secretary Alexander Macario.  The Salintubig project is a part of the P10 billion rehabilitation program under the 2018 General Appropriations Act. /je
