Police chief Director General Oscar Albayalde warned on Wednesday that the internal cleansing in the Philippine National Police (PNP) would also be “chilling” and “deadly.”
“We will be as chilling, as deadly, in our cleansing program,” Albayalde said during an awarding ceremony Tuesday for personnel of the National Capital Region Police Office.
Albayalde’s warning came a day after a policeman was killed and three others were arrested over an alleged kidnapping-extortion incident in Taguig City.

“When we say deadly, we will be sharp in identifying these scalawags in uniform,” the police chief said.
Albayalde said policemen in illegal activities would eventually face sanctions.
“Yung iba sa inyo na pasaway, there will come a time na tatamaan din kayo,” he said.
(To you who are unruly, there will come a time when you will face the consequences.)
He said the PNP “hates” to see its members gunned down in shootouts but hoped it would “send a strong signal” that it was “dead serious” in cleansing its ranks.
“Let us effectively remove them from our ranks. Let us show to the public that we are capable of change, […] that we are a professional police service,” Albayalde said.
He urged policemen who couldn’t follow the rules of the PNP to resign and save the image of the police from ruin. /cbb
