At least 2,000 motorcycle riders from various cities in Metro Manila and neighboring provinces joined the launching of Philippine National Police (PNP) Clean Rider campaign on Wednesday.
PNP Director General Oscar Albayalde and National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) Director Chief Supt. Guillermo Eleazar led ranking police officials in launching the campaign.
The Clean Rider drive entails motorcycle riders registering with the PNP and getting a sticker as proof of their participation in the program.
Stickers are given for free.
The PNP leadership sees the measure as a way to curb the proliferation of crimes perpetrated by motorcycle-riding assailants.
Many, if not most, of recent crimes – especially murder and robbery – have reportedly been done by criminals riding in tandem. /cbb
