President Rodrigo Duterte said Tuesday that his daughter, Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte Carpio, would not run for a national post.

Duterte made such revelation as he stressed his support for enacting an anti-political dynasty law during a speech at the joint 68th National Security Council and 69th National Intelligence Coordinating Agency Founding Anniversary.

“I am in favor of putting up a very — a dynasty law. Okay ako, wala akong problema. Ang anak ko, si Inday, I can tell you I know her. Hindi magtatakbo ‘yan ng national. Ganun lang ‘yan,” Duterte said.

In a Pulse Asia survey released in June, the presidential daughter would likely place third to fifth if senatorial elections were held when the survey was conducted.

The country is set to hold its midterm elections on May 2019.

Recently, Duterte’s eldest child successfully secured accreditation of her new regional political party named “Hugpong ng Pagbabago” or Alliance for Change from the Commission on Elections (Comelec). /kga
