SAN PEDRO CITY – Two persons were hurt in a roadside explosion that police believed was meant to hit a Philippine Army vehicle in Antipolo City, Rizal on Tuesday.
The explosion around 11 a.m. in Sitio (sub-village) Cupang in Barangay (village) San Jose was caused by an improvised explosive device found on the roadside, Calabarzon police spokesperson Supt. Chitadel Gaoiran, said.
The explosive was detonated just as the vehicle of the Army’s 80th Infantry Battalion was about to pass by.
It so happened that a tricycle was also in the vicinity and the explosion caused injuries to its two passengers. No one was reported hurt on the Army’s vehicle.
The police believed the explosive was placed by members of the communist forces that meant to “ambush” the soldiers. This happened days after the Army clashed with rebels in San Juan, Batangas and in Quezon province. MARICAR CINCO
