300 Nueva Ecija cops take surprise drug test

CABANATUAN CITY – Over three hundred ranking police officers and anti-drug operatives underwent surprise drug tests at the Nueva Ecija police provincial office here on Monday.

Sr. Supt. Eliseo Tanding, provincial police director, said chiefs of police, their deputies and members of the drug enforcement units operating in five cities and 27 municipalities were tested to make sure no one has been using narcotics.

The activity, he said, was inspired by President Rodrigo Duterte’s declaration of a “relentless and chilling” anti-drug campaign during his third State of the Nation Address (Sona) last July 23.

Tanding said a policeman assigned in Gapan City is now the subject of am investigation after testing positive for drug use in June. But he said every police officer will be given due process should he or she be charged for drug abuse. /kga
