Former President Noynoy Aquino should have done more to protect human life during his administration, Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said on Monday.

In a press briefing, Roque responded to Aquino’s swipe against Duterte’s remark on human rights and human lives, saying that Aquino “shares partly the blame” for the culture of impunity in the Philippines.

Aquino chided Duterte for setting apart human rights and human lives, saying that two are not mutually exclusive.

But Roque pointed out that Aquino’s leadership was marred by a “breach of our obligation to the right of life.”

“I wish he did more also in protecting human life. During his administration too, the UN also noticed that we were in breach of our obligation to the right to life, especially on the killing of journalists as well,” Roque said.

“As a former President, he shares partly the blame for this culture of impunity,” the Palace official added.   /kga
