The police officer who shot dead the main suspect in the killing of a pregnant Quezon City prosecutor will remain on active duty, even as an investigation of the incident was underway.

“Investigation is still ongoing… We will give him due process,” Senior Insp. Elmer Monsalve, chief of the Quezon City police’s Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit (CIDU), told the Inquirer on Sunday, referring to duty jailer PO3 Ramil Langa.

Monsalve said the case investigator would speak to witnesses in the CIDU building who might have seen Angelito Avenido Jr. grab the gun of Langa on Saturday morning.

Monsalve noted that there were no closed-circuit television cameras in the building.

Avenido was arrested on June 4 after he stabbed Madonna Ednaco Joy Tanyag, a prosecutor at the Office of the Ombudsman, in what was described as a robbery incident gone wrong.
