Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra will review rice smuggling cases being investigated by the Department of Justice (DOJ).
Guevarra said he would personally check the status of the cases after Sen. Cynthia Villar complained that no rice smuggler had been charged in court.
Villar, chair of the Senate committee on agriculture and food, had asked the DOJ to indict at least one rice smuggler to show the government was serious in the campaign against smuggling.
Villar had also called on the Philippine Competition Commission to crack down on illegal rice traders. —Dona Z. Pazzibugan
