PAGADIAN CITY — A tornado hit three villages here at 4 p.m. Saturday, destroying 20 houses, sari-sari (variety) stores and several fruit trees.

Haron Damada Jr., Disaster Risk Reduction and Management action officer, said they were still trying to assess the damage wrought by a freak tornado in the villages of Tuburan, Kawit and Muricay here.

In Tuburan alone, roofs of sari-sari stores on Rizal Avenue flew off while 17 houses were partially damaged by falling trees because of the strong winds.

A large tree uprooted by the wind barred a barangay road in Kawit area.

Boy Torres, a resident of Tuburan village, said parts of roofs flew off when the strong winds hit.

Damada saidi there was no reported casualty from the incident as the CDRRM team cleared the area of debris. /atm
