Expect light to heavy rain on weekend–Pagasa

The Luzon and Visayas regions will experience light to heavy rain on Saturday, the state weather bureau said.

In its 4 a.m. weather bulletin, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said that a low-pressure area (LPA) was spotted 100 kilometers east-southeast of Casiguran, Aurora.

Hence, cloudy skies with  scattered rains and thunderstorms will be experienced over the provinces of Mimaropa, Bicol, and Western Visayas Regions due to the Southwest Monsoon or Trough of LPA.

Meanwhile, Metro Manila and the rest of the country will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms but this is due to localized thunderstorms.

Pagasa cautioned the residents of these areas for possible flooding and landslides due to moderate, and at times, heavy rain.

Severe Tropical Storm Jongdari (international name), on the other hand, continues to veer away from the country.

Jongdari was last spotted at 2,480 kilometers northeast of extreme northern Luzon, outside the Philippine area of responsibility.

It has a maximum sustained winds of 140 kilometers per hour (kph) near the center and gustiness of up to 190 kph. It is moving north at a speed of 40 kph. /jpv
