Moderate rain expected from LPA spotted near Quezon province

A low-pressure area (LPA) spotted near Quezon province will enhance the southwest monsoon and bring rains, state weather bureau said Friday.

In its 4:00 PM weather bulletin, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said the LPA was last seen 80 kilometers east northeast of Infanta, Quezon.

Pagasa said the southwest monsoon will affect the western sections of Luzon and Visayas.

The provinces of Mindoro and northern Palawan can expect moderate to occasionally heavy rains and thunderstorms.

Metro Manila, CALABARZON, Central Luzon and Bicol Region, Marinduque and Romblon will experience cloudy skies with light to moderate rains and thunderstorms.

Light to moderate rains can be expected in the Visayas and rest of Palawan, while the rest of the country will have partly to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms.

Meanwhile, Pagasa said Typhoon Jongdari was located as 2,345 kilometers east northeast of extreme northern Luzon, outside the Philippine area of responsibility.

Packing maximum winds of 140 kilometers per hour near the center and gustiness of 170 kilometers per hour, the typhoon was expected to hit Japan.   /vvp
