The late Dr. Fe del Mundo, the first Filipina to be admitted to Harvard Medical School, was born on Nov. 27, 1911, in Intramuros, Manila. She was awarded the Ramon Magsaysay Award for public service in 1977 and named National Scientist in 1980. She died on Aug. 6, 2011, just a few months shy of her 100th birthday.—Schatzi Quodala, Inquirer Research
