MMDA apprehends 200 provincial buses on Edsa for violating ban

More than 200 provincial buses have been flagged down and reminded by the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) of its new traffic policy banning provincial buses along Epifanio Delos Santos Avenue (Edsa).

According to the MMDA, during the ban’s dry run on Wednesday, a total of 219 provincial buses were caught violating the new policy.

Among those apprehended, 86 provincial buses were caught during the morning monitoring while 133 provincial buses were caught during the night.

The MMDA said the temporary and partial ban on provincial buses along Edsa aims to improve traffic flow along Edsa by reducing the number of buses traversing the highway.

According to the partial and temporary bus ban policy of the MMDA, both northbound and southbound provincial buses are banned from traversing along EDSA from Pasay City until Cubao in Quezon City.

Bus drivers who will be caught passing through the said portions between 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. and between 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. will be made to pay a P2,000 fine.

The provincial bus ban on Edsa be officially start on August 1.  /muf
