The state weather bureau on Tuesday said a southwest monsoon is affecting Luzon and Visayas as a tropical depression outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) nears the Philippines.
In its 4:00 p.m. advisory, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said the tropical depression was last spotted 1,570 kilometers east of extreme Norther Luzon.
It has maximum sustained winds of 55 kilometers per hour near the center with a gustiness of 64 kilometers per hour. It is forecast to move north-northwest at 10 kilometers per hour.
Pagasa warned of occasional rains in Metro Manila, Central Luzon, CALABARZON, MIMAROPA and Western Visayas due to the southwest monsoon.
Cagayan Valley, the Bicol region, and Eastern Visayas may also experience occasional rains caused by southwest monsoon or the trough of the tropical depression.
The rest of the country will experience partly cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers and localized thunderstorm. /ee
